Open Question: How Do I Train And Get A Job As A Server Side Java Web Developer?

Hi I have a years commercial experience of core java and I’m out of work. I want to secure a job as a back end java web developer but I am completely confused as to where to start training. There are so many acronyms I am getting bogged down. I started looking for J2EE courses but discovered EJB’s aren’t that popular and would cost more for web hosting (I plan to develop a showcase and deploy online for potential employers to view). Can anyone tell me what I should learn to become employable as a server side java web developer? Ideally if someone could point me at an online video tutorial/course, that would be perfect. Alright, so, I have a VPS. I have access to it through SSH and I have Apache2 installed, but I need to basically set up nameservers so I can use my domain name instead of the VPN’s IP. Can someone please guide me through what I have to do? It has to be completely newb friendly. I just need to get my domain working. It’s for a minecraft server.

I have a 83% average with extra community service completed and many extra curriculars, which programs might I get accepted and which of those should I choose! I have not yet been accepted to any universities but expect to soon I have applied to the following programs:
BBA Honours – Wilfrid Laurier University

I am trying to set up a Minecraft server and running into many complications. I have downloaded the server software and it runs fine on my computer locally. My computer also meets the requirements for running the software effectively. However, no potential IP address I give to my friend will allow her to connect to my server. I have done research and have tried putting my Default Gateway IP into my web browser, but I get taken to an AT&T page that isn’t like any of the pages the various tutorials have given. I have tried to set up a static IP but I couldn’t find the two DNS IP’s on my cmd and found out that since the one I did find was identical to my default gateway it wouldn’t work. I did try some “public DNS IPs” that allowed me to browse the web, but none of the IP adresses I sent my friend would work. I am running a Toshiba with Windows 7, and here is some other information:
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Model: Satellite P755
Rating: 5.5
Processor: Intel(R)Core(TM) i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 6.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System Don’t know if any of that is useful. I think my major problem is the port forwarding, but I could be wrong. I’d also like to state that I did check to make sure my server was running while I did this work. I have watched several tutorials and read several webpages, so I guess this requires a bit more expertise than a web search can provide.

The Effect of John Brown’s Raid on Harper’s Ferry
On an autumn evening in the small town of Harper’s Ferry, renowned abolitionists John Brown led a raid against a federal weapons storage facility. Over the next 32 hours an initial violent siege, a drawn out standoff and the eventual bloody conclusion occurred to form one of the influential events in United States. Brown’s raid on October 16th 1859, started a waved of reaction from initial reports and furor over the event grew to fever pitch over the next few weeks as energetic debate, contentious conversations and vitriolic discourse related to the issue of slavery and its role in the development and moral fabric of the United States. A mere sixteen months following Brown’s daring raid on Harper’s Ferry, the Civil War, the most divisive and galvanizing event in American history, began despite being avoided for eighty years of similar rhetoric. John Brown and his raid on Harper’s Ferry were on of the main causes of the Civil War and its significance effect on United States’ history should not be discounted.
The issue of slavery had been argued since the founding of the country. The Story of John Brown (2005) sates slavery “was a burning issue that refused to go away and grew more intense with each passing year (2). John Brown was a lifelong abolitionist with a deep seated hatred of slavery which he viewed as “a sin against God” (2). Brown felt the way to end slavery was war where slaves would rise up against those who held them in bondage. In an effort to incite such a war Brown paned and carried out the raid on Harper’s Ferry. There “He would first capture the U.S. armory and arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Va., with its 100,000 muskets and rifles. Once news of the capture got out, Brown believed, local slaves would rise in revolt, joining his fight” (3). Browns vision of a slave rebellion was never fulfilled as the raid became a struggle that was fought solely by Brown in his mean all of whom were killed during the raid and ensuing standoff or hung afterward like Brown himself. But Brown did succeed in another way he did not imagine. NPR (2005) states “there’s an argument to be made that the Civil War began in 1859 at Harpers Ferry, rather than in 1861 at Fort Sumter or Manassas, because that’s where things really started going downhill.” The Story of John Brown quotes the great Frederick Douglass echoing a similar sentiment with “John Brown began the war that ended American slavery” (4).
For eight years abolitionists and pro-slavery opponents had done battle in the arena of politics and it seemed that compromise was always made and the war so many felt would happen was put of time and time again through compromises, politics and apathy. But John Brown changed all of that with his actions and suddenly the issue of slavery was front and center and not going to go away as before. As NPR states, “At the time of Brown’s raid, the nation is divided but people still think maybe we can compromise and prevaricate and somehow put off this reckoning over the division in our country and the division over slavery.”
While the Civil War would have most likely occurred eventually even if Brown did not raid Harper’s Ferry, his timing led the domino like event that immediately followed including the choice of Abraham Lincoln as a Presidential candidate to end slavery. It is hard to imagine the course the country would have taken if John Brown had not set the mechanism in motion that precipitated the most galvanizing event in United States history. Works Cited
